Bill Welch

Photographer of the Year:
Overall, Color Prints, Nature

Photographer Bill Welch is passionate about wildlife, and the wild places where they live. He and his wife have traveled to many remote locations, including photographing snowy owls in the windswept Saskatchewan prairies at minus 40 degrees, Iceland in winter, and several hundred miles above the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories of Canada.

They have travel over 600 miles on the Amazon River, as well as 414 miles up the Dalton Highway, to the Arctic Ocean, and then out to an island in the Beaufort Sea to photograph polar bears and the Norther Lights.

They love photographing birds, especially in flight, and have perfected many of the techniques need to accomplish this. They have travelled to Homer, Alaska for bald eagles fishing, South Texas and Galveston Island for the songbird migration, and British Columbia for the magnificent Great Grey Owls.

They also enjoy photographing songbirds, butterflies, and other creatures that share their 10acres in Caesars Creek Township, Ohio. (headshot photo courtesy of Alan Murphy Photography)
